Crossfire VS Tracer TBS : lequel choisir ?

What is Crossfire?

The Crossfire is an RF (radio frequency) link system allowing very long distance flight, on the 868MHz band in Europe. Introduced by Team Black Sheep at a very affordable price, a team of FPV dronists from the first hour, it has become essential for all those who want to fly up to several tens of kilometers from the piloting point.

This system is native on the Tango 2 and Tango 2 Pro radio controls introduced by the brand, but it can also be added in the form of a removable module in micro or nano* format on radio controls from Frsky, Radiomaster, etc.

It is possible to reach such a range with a minimum of latency and losses thanks to this system, but it is also possible to play with the antennas and the different types of receivers to optimize the transmission chain (directional antennas, Diversity receiver which recover the best between 2 captured signals, etc.). The simple fact of using a frequency band of this type, with a very long wavelength, makes it possible to pass obstacles and to pick up a signal at a very long distance (“long range”)

What is Tracer?

The Tracer is also a radio link system, which appeared after the Crossfire, which aims to bring together the best of the Crossfire and the classic 2.4GHz transmission systems. For this, we use a 2.4GHz system with high transmission power, and a repetition of the signal at high frequency, in order to be sure that the signal is always well received, more reliably than with the Crossfire! Thus the expected range is 25km!

The system also exists in micro or nano* format, to be added to an existing radio control in the form of a module, where it is natively present in the “Mambo and Mambo Ethix” radio controls.

With these 2 systems, the TBS brand is recognized worldwide, whether in the world of recreational drones and even professional drones. Recently, with the Sixty9, TBS had the idea of combining RF receiver and video transmitter in a single product, in crossfire or tracer version to allow the video signal to go almost as far as the RF link allows!

*Nano formats: TBS Tango 2, Taranis X-Lite, X9 Lite

Microphone formats: TBS Tango 1, RadioMaster TX16S, Taranis X9D
